Samsung and Lg launched their flagships of the year i.e the S7/ S7 edge and the G5. Both of them were great phones and had a unique feature i.e the always on display. They could be named differently but their working is the same. The main difference in them was their implementation on an IPS screen in the G5 and the AMOLED screen on the S7 and the edge.
The best part about android is that you can get the feature which may be unique though on a particular phone in no time. Many developers have made apps related to the always on feature. After trying a few apps i have found this app i.e ALWAYS ON AMOLED made by Tomer Rosenfeld.
The good thing about the app is that it gets the work done. I am using a phone which has an IPS LCD display and not AMOLED panel. Hence keeping it on full time takes a heavy toll on battery. However I can enable it for a particular instance like a minute or during charging and so on. If you have an AMOLED display then the toll on battery will not be much and you can keep it on always.

An image from the lockscreen. It displays the current time and date and if you want you can display the battery status too. On an AMOLED screen the background being black, it won't affect the battery much.
The analog clock and the digital clock is free with the app. Rest clock faces or designs you may have to purchase.
There are variety of clock faces to choose from. However to unlock a very small amount is to be paid.
You can select the time for which you want the clock to be displayed. There is also an option to keep it on always.
You can choose various gestures to perform actions on the lock screen. Double tap to action works perfectly without any issues
One can choose the font style, size as per choice. Font colour is another option which can be customized as per your choice
Battery saver mode, raise to wake , proximity are some other features. The pocket mode which makes use of proximity sensor works perfect. You can check/uncheck to display notifications
This is the display when notifications arrive. It shows you some details which is a great stuff by the developer ;-)
I hope you would like this app as it gets most of the things done. I did not face any issues while using it. This app adds its layer on the lock screen hence you may find to disable it after some time as you will have to unlock the lock screen after moving from this Always On Display.
