Smartphones are becoming smarter and smarter day by day and to top it off the apps are becoming more reliable and innovative. Just imagine controlling your phone with your face movements!! Strange and skeptical, isn't it ? But accedently i did come across an app called EVA facial mouse made by a Spanish developer.
Functioning of the app :
This app makes use of your phone's front facing camera and mainly focusses on your face. The camera window will appear on the top of your device with a calibrate plus sign to keep your face in the centre position.
Being a facial mouse ( as the app title goes )
it consists of a computer mouse type as pointer which moves along the screen as your face moves. It might feel awkward to use your face to move a pointer however there will be some or the other practical use for it like pausing a video ( seems legit )
On launching the app, you will have to enable accessibility option for it to work as this app would overlay over the other apps. It will automatically take you to the setting and you would just have to enable it.
Now, as soon as you enable the permission, and enable EVA , you will be able to see a small front camera window with the plus sign at the centre. It works like calibration in order to make it easier to pan or move the mouse around.
As said earlier that this app overlays over your screen, there is a small bar with buttons like BACK, RECENT TASKS, HOME, NOTIFICATION PANEL, KEYBOARD, SLEEP MODE. There will also be a scroll button which appears either at top or bottom depending on the conditions. Here in this case the scroll button is at top left and overlays the app grid.
As seen from the screenshot, hovering the mouse pointer over the buttons , respective task is performed. As in this case , the pointer is pointing to the recent tasks button and with a delay of almost a second it does the job. ( Pretty impressive as this app is one of its kind ).
You can also configure keyboard however i did not find it that helpful as typing words with a mouse pointer is a nightmare!!
Another great feature is on hovering the pointer over any app you get options of only a click or long click. Click opens the app and long click provides options of app info, uninstall which normally appears on long pressing an app.
On choosing the sleep option on the bar which appears to the left, no clicks are recorded but rather it acts as a pure pointer. This could be useful when the device is at some distance and you want to point to a particular point or area on the screen rather than involve in a click.
Speaking of scrolling, while browsing an article you get an option to either scroll backwards or forward depending on where you want it to go. It was quite convenient but however bringing into real practice is difficult.
Last but not the least, if you want to access the notification panel just move the pointer over the 4 th button from the top. It will drop down the panel and you can easily access your notification as well as get rid of it. To release the panel, again hover over the button and you are good to go.

Is this app any worth ?
I have used this app extensively and indeed was very impressed with it. This app is quite new and almost without bugs in its initial stages. This app is backed by a research team and indeed quite amount of work has been involved. You should surely give it a try and i am sure you would appreciate it. Speaking of its practical usage, there could be some and I would really like to hear from you about your experience of using the app.
