Last year, back in 2016 , YouTube announced a toned down version of YouTube which is mainly for those who are low on data or cannot stream videos in higher resolution because of data restrictions called as the YouTube GO. Finally, its beta version has been released on the play store. However, its availability varies from region to region.
The app is similar to the official YouTube app however the interface, the functions of the app vary to some extent.
You can search for a particular video or channel and play the videos. However, do remember that you can play videos only in 2 given resolutions i.e basic and standard. The basic quality is 144p whereas the standard could be 360p. You cannot play videos in higher resolution , not even 720p.
As said earlier this app is meant for people who do not use wifi or unlimited data, you can also save the videos rather than viewing them via the app. YouTube's official app consumes a lot of data whereas this app will consume lesser data which can be saved further by downloading them (as when you view a video over the internet, the background apps or even background loading of videos can consume more data , hence offline viewing is made available by downloading the video in the resolution you want)
Another feature of this app is the capability to share videos with others offline. You can send and receive videos over other devices by enabling hotspot.
The official YouTube app has the availability of only offline viewing and no sharing offline option. Hence, this could be a factor for you to try this app.
