Google's Pixel and Pixel XL made their debut under the Pixel series therby putting an end to the Nexus lineup. Their successor named 'walleye' (for the smaller variant) and 'taimen' (for the larger variant) were not much into rumors although it was tipped that there could have been a possibility for another Pixel branded device apart from the two, however it now stands cancelled.
The Pixel's successor will also be premium like the predecessor and can be named Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Walleye or Pixel 2:
The walleye codenamed device will be the smaller variant and will have a 4.97 inch (technically 5 inch) 1080p display like the Pixel. It is expected to boast Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SOC with KRYO 280 based 8 cores clocked at 2.4gHz and 1.9gHz coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. The RAM is expected to be 4GB and 64GB of internal storage can be expected.
From the design point of view, Google doesn't seem to be interested in eliminating the huge bezels as the Pixel and Pixel XL had them. The design may remain somewhat identical with a combination of glass and metal. There will also be an addition of stereo speakers with the elimination of Headphone Jack however, the leaks and rumors may not always be 100%, although the specs seem legit.
Taimen or Pixel 2 XL:
The larger variant is codenamed Taimen and will boast a 5.99 inch 2K display which is slightly larger than its predecessor which had 5.5 inch screen. The panel will be OLED provided by LG as the report claims.
The device will be having smaller bezels as compared to its predecessor therby paving way for a larger screen. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SOC and will have 4GB RAM. The storage options may include 128GB along with higher storage options.
The device is tipped to come with a single camera lens and the form factor can be similar with the combination of glass and metal.
Stereo speakers may also be included however the fate of 3.5mm headphone jack cannot be determined.
The cameras like last year may have similar optics and will be standard in both variants. Pixel's camera was the highlighting factor and its expected that Google will not make any considerable changes with it.
Last year the Pixel and Pixel XL were made by HTC being the ODM. This year LG is in the race for manufacturing and the last Nexus device made by LG was the 5X which did not do well concerning the polycarbonate body and issues related to the screen. However, with better design changes with the G6, expectations are higher with the Pixel successor.
