Qualcomm officially announced their flagship processor at CES 2017, that is the Snapdragon 835 which will be the successor to Snapdragon 821. This processor is based on the 10nm FINfet process. The Snapdragon 820/821 was based on the 14nm process. Here lower the number better the performance as lower number means smaller size of transistor and hence more transistors in a particular area.
It is based on the KRYO Cpu architecture which was also used in their Snapdragon 820/821 processors. However it makes use of KRYO 280 which consists to total of 8 cores unlike the 820/821 which had 4 cores
It consists of 4 high performance cores which has a clock speed of 2.45 GHz and another 4 low performance cores which are usually for energy efficiency, clocked at 1.9 GHz.
The processor is 35% smaller in size and consumes 25% lesser power than its predecessor as claimed by Qualcomm. However its real world usage can only determine whether its power efficient or not.
Speaking of the graphics department, it will have the Adreno 540 gpu. It supports the Vulcan API as well as it will have the directx 12. The processor is mainly focussed on VR which is a clear indication of Qualcomm's part in the development of VR technology.
The company claims 25% increase in graphics performance as compared to adreno 530 gpu and can support 4K video recording at 30 or 60 fps.
In terms of camera department it can support megapixels upto 32 Mp on single lens and 16 MP if dual lens is used.
The security features have been improved and it also supports quick charge 4.0 which they claim is 20% faster and 30% efficient as compared to quick charge 3.0
It will be interesting to see the performance in real world usage and the devices that would be equipped with it. 820/821 were great processors with no heating issues and hence there are higher expectations with Snapdragon 835.
