Qualcomm quick charge 4.0

Qualcomm's quick charge 4.0 was into rumours for some time with impressive charging time as compared to its predecessors. Finally at CES 2017 it was debuted with Snapdragon 835 chipset. The quick charge 3.0 was widely used and 4.0 is an updated version of it with additional features. For details about previous quick charge versions do refer Previous article

The company claims 5 minutes of charge would lead to 5 hours of battery life. However do remember that the reference battery capacity was taken as 2750 mAh and hence these figures will vary from device to device.

Moving ahead, the company claims of 0-50% charge in 15 minutes, again for the reference battery capacity of 2750 mAh. Last year Qualcomm claimed of about 80% charge in 35 min with quick charge 3.0, which theoretically proves quick charge 4.0 is was faster than quick charge 3.0

Some features of quick charge 4.0 are:

USB type C and USB PD ( Power delivery) complient:
The use of USB type C will ensure a common cable for all charging needs. It concludes that devices with QC 4.0 will make use of USB C which was quite common with flagships and some devices last year.

INOV : Like the quick charge 3.0 it will have the INTELLIGENT NEGOTIATION FOR OPTIMIM VOLTAGE. This feature enables dynamic charging i.e by use of algorithms it determines the optimum voltage during the charging process. It takes into account all the conditions as temperature is an important factor to monitor while charging.
The charging from 0-80 (approx) will always take place at higher rates and for the remaining part it reduces and hence a balanced cycle takes place.

It also has the battery saver which deals with the physical condition of the battery as higher power while charging may lead to overheating and damage to battery. The battery undergoes many charge / discharge cycles, hence battery saving or rather monitoring components are required.

This was a sneak peek into the Qualcomm's quick charge 4.0 Many of the flagships and other devices will be equipped with QC 4 and indeed its performance in real time will determine its efficiency and the way OEM's implement it. Do share your experiences of using quick charge (earlier versions) in the comments below.
