Flashing ROMs is usually a process not undertaken by many people. The process has its own risk as even a minor mistake can lead to bricking ( you may have to use your device as a paperweight ). However if all the steps are correctly performed then you can gain full control of your device.
I have a LENOVO A7000 which is a budget device. Usually companies do not provide software updates after some time. The last update which i received was about 6-7 months ago, hence i took the brave step of flashing ROM.
Before Flasing do remember :
I have a LENOVO A7000 which is a budget device. Usually companies do not provide software updates after some time. The last update which i received was about 6-7 months ago, hence i took the brave step of flashing ROM.
Before Flasing do remember :
- Warranty is void
- small error may brick your device
- the installed ROMs may have bugs
- All ROMs are not stable
- Many features may not work
As said there are many risks but there are many advantages:
- you get full control over your device
- if ROM allows you can overclock your CPU
- you get the latest android version (If developers develop the ROM for your device)
- Performance improves
- and many more : )
During flashing the ROM i would recommend you to first install the custom recovery. I installed TWRP (Team win recovery) which is easier to use and navigate to flash a ROM.
Every phone has its own recovery tool built hence i recommend you to check your device name and tutorial to go about. (Check YouTube videos for tutorials)
I checked out XDA Developers ( Best site for ROMs and getting builds as well as recovery tools for your device) XDA site
First as said install the RECOVERY. There is no need for ROOT. You will need to download 2 files :
one is for the tool and the other is the text file which is the scatter file.
the tool consists the main software. The scatter file is a text file which you need to use in the software.
REMEMBER TO CHECK IF YOU CAN GO WITH THIS METHOD DIRECTLY AS UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER MAY BE REQUIRED.
Do remember to check the settings whether the correct options have been enabled
DO REMEMBER TO CHECK BOTH OPTIONS. IF YOU UNCHECK THE STORAGE OPTION THE PHONE MAY NOT BOOT. JUST A BLACK SCREEN APPERS BUT IF IT HAPPENS BY MISTAKE THEN AGAIN CHECK IT , REPEAT THE STEPS AS IN THE TUTORIAL AND YOU WILL BE GOOD TO GO.
You will have to select the path of scatter folder. After do check the DOWNLOAD ONLY option and select boot and recovery (If automatically not selected).
Select the DOWNLOAD option and switch off the phone and attach USB cable. The process of installing TWRP RECOVERY is successful.
After installing TWRP , download the ROM of your choice from trusted sources (Check for stable ROMs and do read the feedback and overview) and flash using recovery.
DO REMEMBER TO CHECK THE FILES FOR YOUR RESPECTIVE PHONE. THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL BUT AN OVERVIEW OF INSTALLING RECOVERY AND FLASHING ROM FOR THE FIRST TIME. DO CHECK OUT TUTORIALS AND WISHING YOU SUCCESS FOR FLASHING ROMs.
