Samsung unveils the Note 8

Samsung at an event has unveiled the successor to the 'blasting' Note 7. The Note 7 fan edition was announced just a month ago however that was region specific and was meant to prevent wastage of resources from the defective Note 7 units.
The Note series is the highly anticipated device during the 2nd half of any year and finally after many leaks and renders, the device has been launched. Also, unlike the Note 7's battery issue, the Note 8 passes layers of battery safety tests which ensures complete protection and safety.

Specifications:

  • 6.3 inch 18.5:9 aspect ratio super AMOLED 2K infinity display (2960×1440) 
  • 10nm based Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SOC (4×2.35gHz + 4× 1.9gHz) with Adreno 540 GPU (US variant) or Exynos 8895 SOC (4×2.3gHz + 4× 1.7gHz)
  • 6GB RAM and 64/128/256 GB UFS 2.1 internal storage and expandable upto 256GB via sdcard
  • Dual 12MP rear cameras with a wide angle lens and another a telephoto lens
     Wide angle lens : 12MP f/1.7 aperture dual pixel autofocus and 1.4micron pixel size and 77° field of view
     Telephoto lens   : 12MP f/2.4 aperture AF with 1 micron pixel size and 2X optical zoom capability
  • Rear camera capable of 4K video recording at 30FPS, 1080p at 30/60 FPS and slow motion at 720p with 240FPS

The Note 8 comes with dual rear cameras which is Samsung's first implementation of the use of a wide angle and telephoto lens. The placement of the fingerprint sensor is again at the back besides the LED flash and heart rate sensor module. The cameras are aligned in a horizontal manner. Samsung, as in the S8 and S8 Plus has maintained the minimum bezels implementation with taller and narrower Note 8. 


The S pen comes with 4096 pressure points and IP 68 rating. It has 0.7mm tip diameter. The features of the S pen include taking notes from the lock screen itself, using it for artistic purpose, bixby vision, glance, magnify, etc. 

On the software front, it comes with Samsung UX based on Android 7.1.1. It comes with always ON display and edge UX similar to the S8 and S8 Plus. Samsung Pay has been included which enables payment via NFC through supported cards. Apart from the rear mounted fingerprint sensor, it also comes with IRIS scanner and face recognition as security options. 

Black, Blue, Orchid Grey and Gold

The Note 8 will be available in Black, Blue, orchid Grey and Gold however the variants will be region specific. In the US, the Note 8 will come in Orchid Grey and Black and the unlocked variant will be retailing for $930 starting September 15th. The device is compatible with Samsung DeX and the gear VR. The pre-registration offers are again region specific with some regions getting 128Gb sd card. 

In India, the pricing can be expected to touch the Rs. 70,000 mark since the S8 Plus retails at Rs. 65K  for the 4GB RAM -64GB storage variant and Rs.70K for the 6GB and 128GB storage variant.
