Xiaomi's Redmi Note 6 Pro recently has been in the news with it being available for sale with the sellers. The device is also available in Thailand somewhat officially and hence we now have the confirmed specifications which otherwise would have been mere speculations. Anyways without wasting any time let us dig into the differences between the most popular Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Note 6 Pro.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro was made available in India during the start of this year and it sold like a hot cake. Even today its popularity hasn't dwindled although it has been or rather is facing the brunt of aggressive competition from Asus, RealMe and even Nokia and Motorola.
Speaking of the differences between the successor and the predecessor, well the first most obvious point would be the notched display. Yes!! If you have been following us then you will know that we love ranting about the Notch but ultimately accepting the defeat and coming to actual terms we believe that it is the year of the Notch which will never cease to exist at least until Apple ditches it.
Anyways coming back we have a 6.26 inch 19:9 IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass Protection and 2.5D curved glass. The 5 Pro came with a slightly smaller 5.99 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The physical dimensions are :
5 Pro - Height:158.6mm
Width:75.4mm
Thickness:8.05mm
6 Pro - Height:157.9mm
Width:76.4mm
Thickness:8.2mm
Overall, the dimensions are almost similar with point mm in differences here and there. Ultimately one can imagine the Note 6 Pro to be a notched Redmi Note 5 Pro. The physical materials also remain the same with metal flanked at the center in the rear and plastic top and bottom but this time there is a slight pattern change with the Note 6 Pro getting a more styled look (probably we can say that due to the plastic end subtle curve). The front houses Gorilla Glass 3 Protection.
The rear camera placement and the fingerprint sensor location remains identical to the Note 5 Pro. Speaking of cameras, the Note 6 Pro houses a 12 MP f/1.9 aperture lens (1.4 micron pixel size) and a 5 MP f/2.0 depth sensor. On the other hand the Note 5 Pro came with a 12MP f/2.2 lens (1.25 micron pixel size) whereas the depth sensor remained the same. The f/1.9 lens on the Note 6 Pro should pave the way for more light into the sensor with larger pixel size which should result in better low light shots although the Note 5 Pro did excel in the camera department considering the price range and hence slightly better performance is expected here. The front facing camera is the same 20 MP f/2.0 lens and in the Note 6 Pro there is an additional 2 MP depth sensor for portrait shots although most of the work is done by the software algorithm.
Moving away from cameras we have the same Snapdragon 636 SOC powering the Note 6 Pro. The performance of the SOC in the Note 5 Pro was excellent in the budget segment and hence similar results are expected here too. The Adreno 509 GPU should handle graphics pretty well including heavy graphics demanding games like PuBG and Asphalt 9. The RAM and storage variants expected are 3/32, 4/64 and 6/64 GB.
The battery capacity has been maintained at 4000 mAh and no doubt, Xiaomi does a great job in optimizing its devices to yield most out of that mammoth capacity which we expect the Note 6 Pro to yield as well. The possibility of the presence of Quick charge can only be confirmed on testing since the device gets bundled with a 5V 2A charger and the Note 5 Pro didn't come with Qualcomm's quick charge. The device like its predecessor comes with a Micro USB port which for late 2018 and 2019 standards is Neanderthal.
If we have to sum up the differences like we said earlier barring the minor changes in the camera, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is a notched version of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. We would have loved to see at least an incremental change with the SOC since the competition has become quite severe in the budget segment as there are devices boasting a Snapdragon 660 SOC. Do remember that the Redmi Note 6 Pro variant that we discussed here is most probably the global variant and the Chinese variant may have some differences. What do you feel about the Note 6 Pro ? Is it a true successor or should Xiaomi rename it to the Redmi Note 5 Pro 'N' as Honor did with the 9N. Do share your thoughts.
The pricing in Thailand is 6990 Baht which translates to around Rs. 15-16000
