Xiaomi announces the Mi Max 3

The leaks and renders related to the Mi Max 3 have finally turned into a reality by going official in China. The device like its predecessor, has a massive display size coupled with a massive battery capacity due to its realty available in the form of size and the 'MAX' term stands true to its name here.

The device comes with a massive display size of 6.9 inch with 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. The 18:9 aspect ratio makes the overall form factor similar to the predecessor considering that the top and bottom bezel size gets reduced. The device is made up of metal like most other Xiaomi phones with the antenna bands visible to the rear. The rear also houses the fingerprint sensor along with the dual cameras. Overall the dimensions are : 176.15 x 87.4 x 7.99 mm. For reference the Mi Max 2's dimensions were : 174.1 x 88.7 x 7.6 mm and it boasted a screen size of 6.44 inch with a conventional 16:9 aspect ratio.

Speaking of the internals, the Mi Max 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SOC which comes with the KRYO 260 cores clocked upto 1.8 GHz and comes with Adreno 509 GPU. This SOC is also present on the Redmi Note 5 Pro which is an excellent performer and is just shy of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 in terms of the scores and benchmarks. The device comes with 4/6 GB RAM and 64/128 GB storage that can be expanded further upto 256 GB via SD card.

Coming to the optics it boasts similar specs as the Redmi Note 5 (China). The rear houses dual 12 MP f/1.9 lens with 1.4 micron pixel size and 5MP f/2.0 depth sensor. The Redmi Note 5 Pro which is sold in India comes with 12 MP f/2.2 lens alongside the 5MP depth sensor thereby making the aperture size different. Probably the case might be similar in India when the Mi Max 3 goes official here. The front facing camera is of 8MP. The rear camera is capable for shooting in 4K at 30 FPS along with 1080p and 720p. 720p 120 FPS slow motion video recording is available too.

Keeping the 'Max' true to its name, it comes with a 5500 mAh battery capacity which we assume due to the optimization by Xiaomi should last for more than 2 days considering their track record. Also, the device supports Quick Charge 3.0. The Mi Max 3 comes with Android Oreo based on MiUi 9.5 with the MiUi 10 update scheduled soon. The rest of the specifications include Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac which consists of both 2.4 and 5 GHz band support and GPS.

The device will be available in Black, Blue and Gold colors with the 4/64 GB variant available for CNY 1699 and the 6/128 GB variant will be available for CNY 1999.
