Vivo Nex S and Nex A goes official

NEX S

Vivo recently started teasing their Nex series devices which touted to be an all screen phone with almost no bezels. Finally, on 12th they announced the Nex S and Nex A devices which come with a 91.2 % screen to body ratio which is ridiculously insane and the best part is that there is no notch. These devices specifically the Nex S resembles or is based on the Vivo Apex prototype that was showcased recently during the MWC. The best part about Vivo is that they did not even resort to cheap marketing or hype tactics that Lenovo did recently with the Z5 and announced the product that was true and in line with the teasers.

NEX A

Both the Nex S and the Nex A have identical designs with the S having a truly revolutionary feature i.e an on-screen fingerprint sensor. The Nex A houses the sensor to the rear and it is void of the on-screen sensor. Another distinctive design feature is the front facing camera which pops up from the top frame thereby helping the Nex devices to achieve a true bezelless and notchless form factor. There is a small chin to the bottom and the earpiece along with the sensors are located under the display. Vivo's Screen Sound Casting technology helps in delivering the sound through the display itself via vibrations - pretty weird stuff but probably the real world usage will throw light on how effective will it be. In the past Xiaomi had used the piezoelectric sensor for the earpiece and the sound output was underwhelming however being a first gen product back then it was a good try which they did rectify with the Mi Mix 2. The 3.5 mm headphone jack should get an honorary mention since it is present here.

Coming to specifications, the Nex S and the Nex A come with a massive 6.59 inch AMOLED display and a Full HD+ resolution with 19.3:9 aspect ratio. The rear houses the dual cameras of 12MP f/1.8 aperture lens and 5MP f/2.4 lens. The main highlight i.e the front facing camera which pops up through a motorized unit is of 8MP with f/2.0 aperture. Like various other smartphones these days, Vivo has also implemented the AI features and have gone a step ahead by inculcating Samsung's equivalent Bixby assistant and named it Jovi voice assistant. Wait ! They didn't stop there yet but went ahead and placed a dedicated Jovi voice assistant button on these devices. This will actually give you the same feeling like the Samsung S9/S9+ users :P

Now, speaking of whats powering these devices, the Nex S being the real flagship comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SOC wheres the Nex A comes with the Snapdragon 710 SOC. The RAM and storage configurations made available are 8GB - 128GB and 8GB - 256GB for the Nex S whereas for the Nex A it is 6GB - 128GB. The battery capacity made available is 4000 mAh which does come with a fast charger of 22.5W rating. Both these devices run on Android Oreo 8.1 with Vivo's own Funtouch OS 4.0. These devices will be available in China and the pricing is as follows :
