Tenor D - The best alternative to Redmi 5A ?

10.or or Tenor, Amazon's in house brand recently debuted with their Tenor E and G which were budget oriented. The ultra low budget segment has been dominated by Xiaomi with their Redmi Y1 Lite and the 5A however now, with the Tenor D, this dominance may not exist any more if Tenor gets everything right with their offering. The major reason for Xiaomi's dominance was their offerings for a lesser price and most importantly their marketing.

The 10.or D has almost identical specifications when compared to it's rival the Redmi 5A. Physically, the D is more bulkier at almost 9 mm in thickness however the 3500 mAh battery compensates for it. It does come with a 3.5mm audio jack which unfortunately is on the verge of extinction. The device boasts a fingerprint sensor to the rear which the Redmi 5A users are devoid of however the 5A comes with an IR blaster which is not present on the 10.or D. One of the main highlights of the 'D' is the availability of a dedicated slot for memory expansion upto 128GB apart from 2 dedicated slots for SIM cards.

At the price that it retails, we cannot expect much since the main aim of this device is to satisfy basic requirements that a phone must do. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SOC is the best that we can get in this range and it does provide decent performance however heavy gaming is something where we cannot be optimistic. On the software front it comes with Android Nougat (7.1.2) based on Stock Ui which should be more snappier than the MiUi on Redmi 5A. The MiUi is usually not suitable for everyone considering how heavy the UI is although being well optimised and hence the availability of stock UI at the same price point is something which many would appreciate.

One major improvement from the Redmi 5A is the addition of 500mAh capacity on the 10.or D. The 'D' comes with 3500mAh capacity which should suffice for an entire day's needs or at times even more considering the usage. The 5.2 inch 720p display will theoretically not be heavy on the battery although the practical scenario may differ which can only be confirmed by practical usage. The bundled charger is of 5V at 1A (5W) i.e it's not a fast charger.

Coming to the pricing and availability, the Tenor D will be available in 2 variants i.e 2GB RAM - 16GB storage for Rs. 4999 and 3GB RAM - 32GB storage for Rs. 5999. The 5A is also available in the same configuration and at the same price however for the first 5 million units only. The device will be available for purchase on January 5th and the consumers may choose between Black and Gold colors.

Summing it up, the Tenor D is an ideal device considering the price that it retails for. Its the most aggressive contender to the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and in some areas like the availability of fingerprint sensor, more battery capacity and Stock Ui,  the 'D' is ahead. Another area where the Tenor D excels is the pricing as the base variant retails for just Rs. 4999 without any conditions (since the 5A will retail for Rs. 5999 once the count surpasses 5 million) and the higher variant for Rs. 5999 as against Rs. 6999 for 3-32GB variant of the 5A.
