Nokia under HMD Global, held a global launch event for the Nokia 2 in New Delhi, India. The device comes with a very ultra low budget specs for the budget price however the main highlight and selling point is the battery. Prior to the Nokia 2, the 'Nokia 3' was the entry level device in the budget segment from Nokia at the Rs. 9k or $150 mark and the former might come with a price tag of under Rs. 7K and precisely EUR 99 worldwide.
Nokia 2 specifications:
The Nokia 2 comes in a polycarbonate body with aluminium frame like the Nokia 3 and 5. The smaller screen size of 5 inch makes it comfortable for one handed usage and the best part about HMD Global is that they have been carrying the "BEST BUILD QUALITY" legacy from the good old Nokia. The top at the front houses the front facing camera and the bottom houses the huge bezels ;-). The rear consists of the main 8MP camera and an LED flash with the speaker located at the bottom.
One major con with the build is the material used since many devices in this range offer a more premium metallic body as against polycarbonate. If the material doesn't matter to you then the above point isn't applicable.
Speaking of what's powering the Nokia 2, well it comes with a mediocre Snapdragon 212 SOC which is an updated version to the 210. It comes with 4 Cortex A7 cores which is an age old architecture and has been clocked at 1.3gHz and the RAM is just 1GB. For the expected price point of around Rs. 7000, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 or even the 4A would perform better in all respects and they also come with more RAM. However, in the software department, Nokia is far ahead due to the Stock Android and the use of Android Nougat out of the box. The constant security updates is an icing to the cake since most OEMs tend to keep it out of their priority.
Coming to cameras, it comes with an 8MP rear camera with autofocus capability. The rear camera can shoot in 720p resolution although we cannot keep any high hopes since the quality will be mediocre. The front facing camera is of 5MP.
Now lets talk about the main selling point and highlighting factor i.e the battery. The Nokia 2 comes with 4100 mAh battery and Nokia has claimed 2 days of battery life with one charge. How does this fare practically ? It all depends on your usage! Unfortunately, Xiaomi also provides a device with 4000 mAh battery in this price segment which has been priced at Rs. 5999 i.e the Redmi 4A. It also comes with Snapdragon 425 SOC which is far superior than the 212. If you bump up the budget to Rs. 6999, the Redmi 4 is the ideal device to grab since it comes with Snapdragon 435 SOC and 4000 mAh battery.
To sum it up, this device is a clear NO unless you were longing for a Nokia budget phone. Any PROS to consider?? BEST BUILD, ANDROID NOUGAT WITH OREO UPDATE SOON AND BATTERY and seriously nothing else.
Well NOKIA, its time to leave a mark in the budget segment too or else rather not release any device which will anyhow tend to fail.
The availability details will be provided later and the device has been globally announced for EUR 99 with the Indian pricing expected to be around
Rs. 6500-7000
