Coolpad a Chinese brand had debuted in India with the first budget 3GB RAM device that was the Coolpad note 3. The device was a hit back then since it also had a fingerprint sensor at that time when even Xiaomi did not provide. Since then Coolpad has been launching decent devices with the Cool Play 6 being their latest. The Cool Play 6 was recently launched for Rs. 14999 which competes with the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Motorola G5s Plus.

On the design front, the device resembles the previously launched Cool 1 and Le Eco Le devices which always had the "default" design irrespective of any price range. The Black Bezels are easily visible and the liking may differ from person to person although the above pic may not do justice. The fingerprint sensor is located at the rear below the dual camera module. The device comes with backlit enabled capacitive buttons on the front at the bottom. The device overall has a metal unibody design.
The main highlighting factor is the amount of RAM since it falls under the budget category. It comes with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SOC and Adreno 510 GPU. The SOC had recently got a successor in the form of Snapdragon 660 which is highly efficient when compared with the 653 based on 28nm. However, the massive 4060mAh battery must suffice the power needs and provide the "juice" good enough for more than a day.
The 653 SOC is highly capable to handle heavy tasks including gaming and heavy multitasking although while gaming the SOC tends to heat although not uncontrollable. Overall, the user will never face any issues related to performance.
On the camera front, it comes with 2 rear 13MP cameras with f/2.0 aperture lens and dual LED flash. The second sensor has depth enabling implementation (Bokeh) which is similar to the implementations on most other budget devices like Lenovo K8 Note. The quality is quite decent considering the price and at par with other offerings. The front facing camera is of 8MP which can capture decent selfies.
The rear camera also comes with a Pro Mode for manual control over your photos. It is also capable of 4K video recording at 30FPS and 1080p at 30FPS.
In terms of software, it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat based on Coolpad's own custom UI i.e Journey UI. The UI doesn't have an app drawer and is highly customized. This factor may be a hit or a miss to many since Xiaomi Mi A1 and Motorola G5s Plus both come with stock Android. In terms of future updates Coolpad has assured update to Android 8 Oreo by the end of 2017 however we have seen many brands promising updates but not being true to their claim.
To sum it up, this device is a powerhouse in the budget category with decent camera. The battery capacity is also quite large and more than the other offerings excluding the Xiaomi's Redmi series. Although for battery the Lenovo P2 is the way to go due to its mammoth 5000mAh capacity yet the overall balance is available with the Cool Play 6.
This Coolpad Cool Play 6 is available via Amazon India for Rs. 14999 and in 2 colour variants i.e Gold and Grey.
