Samsung J7 Max and J7 Pro overview

Samsung recently announced the J7 Max and J7 Pro. Both these devices are in the midrange category with the prices starting from Rs. 17900. From the specs point of view they seem to be decent offering from Samsung however with the launch of Nokia, the competition for Samsung among tier 1 brands has increased.

Samsung J7 Max :

J7 Max in Gold colour

  • 5.7 inch 1080p IPS LCD display
  • Mediatek Helio P 20 SOC clocked at 1.6gHz and Mali T880 MP2  GPU
  • 4GB RAM and 32GB storage expandable upto 256GB with dedicated slot
  • 13MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture lens
  • 13MP front facing camera with f/1.9 aperture lens and front facing flash
  • 3300 mAh battery
  • Compatible with Samsung Pay
  • Fingerprint sensor at the bottom and smart glow at the back for notifications

Samsung J7 Pro:

J7 Pro

  • 5.5 inch 1080p Super AMOLED display
  • Exynos 7870 octacore SOC clocked at 1.6gHz with Mali T830 MP2 GPU
  • 3GB RAM with 64GB storage expandable upto 128GB via dedicated slot
  • 13MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture
  • 13MP front facing camera with f/1.9 aperture and front facing flash
  • 3600 mAh battery
  • Compatible with Samsung Pay
  • Fingerprint sensor at the front

Both the devices come with Android Nougat out of the box with Samsung's own UI and are capable for Samsung Pay. The J7 Max and Pro come with metal unibody design thus providing premium feel for the midrangers.

As the devices come with Samsung Pay, NFC is present on both. However the J7 Max comes with the mini version of Samsung pay. In the mini version, 'Tap and Pay' feature is not available which is used for making offline payments at PoS terminals. The J7 Pro on the other hand comes with the full version of Samsung Pay.

The 'revolutionary' (being sarcastic) Smart Glow feature is present on the J7 Max which is clearly a marketing gimmick like in the J2 2016 variant. In my opinion the J7 Pro seems to be a decent offering however its priced on the higher side whereas the J7 Max with Helio P20 is a downfall.
However, the rear cameras of both will be interesting to see as both feature 13MP cameras with f/1.7 aperture thus providing better low light shots and depth of field.

The J7 Max is available for a price tag of Rs. 17900 and the J7 Pro is available for Rs. 20900 both offline and online in July.
