Few days are remaining for the most awaited event i.e the MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS which is scheduled from 27th February till 2nd March. Every year big players like Samsung and LG showcase their flagship for the first half of the year along with their other devices. However, this year Samsung intended to step out of showcasing their flagship and rather will host a separate event for it in March. LG on the other hand will showcase their flagship for 2017 under the G series i.e the LG G6.
I am one of those who is very much excited for the unveiling of this device. Lg had great success with the G2 followed by the G3 and G4. All were great devices however their major let down in the mobile world happened with the launch of their 2k16 flagship i.e the G5. The G5 had flaws in build quality as well as many were skeptical about its make whether was it metal or plastic embedded stuff. However, they did overcome with their V20 which was again an underrated device. Going ahead, its time for the G6 and are the renders and leaks spicy enough to convince you to buy , lets find out!!
The above image shows a glimpse of the device in a case. Usually case manufacturers get dimensions of the device in order to make the cases available by the time the device is out for sale in various regions.
One of the most interesting rumor is related to the screen. G6 will have a 5.7 inch IPS LCD screen with QHd display with 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio i.e 2880:1440. This is quite strange aspect ratio as the commonly used aspect ratio was 16:9.
The above images show a detailed view of the G6. The design resembles the V20 as it uses the rear mounted fingerprint sensor with the dual camera setup. The camera is expected to function similarly like the iPhone 7 plus. It could be used for bokeh effect or may be for additional zoom or like the V20 as a wide angle lens. The headphone jack is not going anywhere which HAS TO BE A PLUS POINT as some OEMs are in the process of excluding it.
Speaking of the internals, it is expected to have the last year's processor i.e the Snapdragon 821 with Adreno 530. The main reason for this move is that Samsung has the right to launch its device i.e the s8 first in the market with Snapdragon 835. LG wants its device to be launched before the S8. Also because of this ( as Qualcomm had partnered with Samsung to manufacture their sd835 based on 10nm architecture) many OEMs are launching their devices after the launch of S8/S8 plus.
The RAM is tipped to be 4GB however there were rumors about having 6GB RAM. It makes more sense for 6GB as devices like OnePlus 3T have the same specs. If LG enters with just 4Gb RAM then claiming the market share will be difficult as already they have faced huge losses in 2016.
Nothing much can be said about the Megapixel count on the g6 , however 16MP along with another 16MP lens can be used with an 12MP front facing camera. The aperture size could be f/1.8 like its predecessor.
The device is expected to be dust and water resistant which was not present on the G5.
The always on display is expected to be present. However, it would have made more sense if it would have an AMOLED panel.
Summing it up, the G6 will boast previous year's processor with just an addition of IP rating. Other parameters remain mostly the same. Nothing much info about camera has been in the news and again it seems that the S8 may lead inspite of the Note 7 fiasco.
