Smartron t.phone P - a powerhouse !

Smartron, an Indian brand which initially debuted with the T phone and later introduced the SRT phone has come up with a budget device known as the t.phone P. This device comes with a massive battery and for the price that it retails, it does offer a lot which we cannot overlook. The alphabet 'P' indicates Power which translates to the high battery capacity thereby being the main selling point.

The device, unlike Smartron's previous offerings comes with a metallic body with polycarbonate top and bottom chins. The rear houses a fingerprint sensor and the camera module along with the flash. The front consists of a 5.2 inch 720p display with 2.5D curved glass. The capacitive buttons located to the bottom are backlit. The port included is a regular micro USB port and the 3.5 mm headphone jack is present. Due to the massive battery the device has a thickness of 8.9mm and weighs 160g.

Speaking of internals, the t.phone P is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SOC which comes with 8 Cortex A53 cores clocked upto 1.4 GHz and the GPU accompanying it is the Adreno 505. The internal storage made available is 32 GB coupled with 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The storage can be expanded via sdcard upto 128 GB.  The t.phone P like the other Smartron's offerings comes with a stock Ui (based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat)  which is an added advantage since most brands come up with a heavily customized Ui like Xiaomi's MIUI. The UI although being stock, comes with some of Smartron's apps like t-store, t-cloud and t-care. Additional 1000 GB storage will be available for t.phone P users via t-cloud.

Speaking of cameras, the rear houses a 13MP f/2.2 aperture lens with 1.12 micron pixel size along with the LED flash. The front is equipped with a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 1.12 micron pixel size. The LED flash is available at the front too.

The main highlight of the device is the 5000 mAh battery which is a one off in the budget segment. Xiaomi's Redmi 4 and even the Note 4 came with a massive 4000 mAh capacity which itself yielded good battery life hence the expectations are higher with the t.phone P. This high capacity makes the t.phone P capable of reverse charging via OTG like a powerbank.

The t.phone P will retail for Rs. 7999. At this price point, it competes with the Xiaomi's Redmi 4 and the Y1. However, Xiaomi will soon release the Redmi 5 and probably even the 5 Plus which comes with a more powerful Snapdragon 450 and 625 SOC. Although the Snapdragon 435 SOC is not a bummer yet for better performance the latter devices will be slightly ahead. The major advantage is the mammoth 5000 mAh battery powering a 720p display which ultimately is their selling point satisfying decent day to day performance along with a good battery life. Overall, the battery, stock Ui, decent performance will be the perks and hence we cannot expect much from any budget device which satisfies the basic requirements of an average user.

The Smartron t.phone P will be available in black color and will retail for Rs. 7999 via Flipkart through sales.
