Samsung had recently unveiled the A8 and A8 Plus in Vietnam. In India Samsung has announced only the Plus variant and it will retail for Rs. 32990 which competes directly with the OnePlus 5T and the newly launched Huawei View 10.

The A8 Plus also has a younger sibling named as the regular A8 and it comes with a tad smaller 5.6 inch display. Both these devices come with IP68 dust and water resistant. They possess a unibody design with glass back and a metallic frame and are not void of the headphone jack. The fingerprint sensor gets a better position at the rear below the camera module. Face recognition is also present however Samsung itself claims that it won't be as secure as the fingerprint sensor.

The A8 Plus boasts Samsung's own Exynos 7885 SOC which comes with 2 Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and 6 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. This SOC is based on 14nm process thereby making it efficient and hence the 3500 mAh battery should suffice the entire days needs although the practical usage may differ. This SOC can be considered equivalent to the upper tier 600 series of Qualcomm Snapdragon SOCs. The RAM provided is 6GB which even the S8/S8 Plus doesn't possess.

Speaking of cameras, the rear houses a single 16MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and pixel size of 1.12 micron. The front facing camera double up to 16MP and 8MP, both with f/1.9 aperture lens. The 16MP sensor has a pixel size of 1.0 micron with 76° field of view and the latter has a pixel size of 1.12 micron and 85° FOV.

The A8 Plus will run Android Nougat out of the box based on Samsung's own Ui. Various features like Bixby, Always On display, secure folder, dual messenger, etc. are added. Samsung Pay is default due to the availability of NFC and the biometrics can be used for payments.

The device will go on sale in India starting January 20th via Amazon for Rs. 32,990. It is one of the first Samsung's offering that seems very close in competition to the tier 2 brands like OnePlus and Huawei.
