Xiaomi unveils the bezelless Mi Mix 2

Last year Xiaomi debuted in the bezelless race with the Mi Mix. The device had high end specifications and was more inclined to be a prototype due to its high screen to body ratio although it was available for purchase. This time Xiaomi has come up with the successor to the Mi Mix i.e the Mi Mix 2. The original Mix although was unique yet because of the bezelless design it was fragile and had a unique method for speakers which was not well received due to its poor sound output and high intensity vibrations. This time Xiaomi has claimed to rectify such issues with the Mix 2 and have provided a more furnished device.

Special edition Mi Mix 2

The Mi Mix has a ceramic back with aluminium frame. There is another version known as the 'special edition" which is made completely from ceramic including the frame. The Mix 2 also comes with 18 Karat Gold layer along the camera rim. The rear of the Mix 2 resembles the predecessor and Xiaomi claims to have reduced the chin bezels by 12%. The front facing camera is still located at the bottom.
The speaker this time has been revamped by their " Cantilever Piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology" which basically guides the sound towards the speaker as against vibrations on the predecessor.
The Proximity sensor however is hidden like in the original Mi Mix.

The camera on the Mix 2 has the same sensor that was used on the Mi 6 and comes with 12MP single lens (as against 2 on the Mi 6) Sony IMX 386 sensor and 1.25 micron pixel size. The image quality from Xiaomi's cameras have never been that interesting and the Mi 6 itself had decent performance. Probably, Xiaomi is stressing more on the bezelless and premium design therby making it their USP. The front facing camera is of 5MP and is located at the bottom right of the device which makes it mandatory to hold the device upside down to take decent selfies.

Speaking of the software, the device comes with MiUi 8 based on Android 7.1.1 The MiUi 9 update will be available sooner however the update to Android Oreo may take time. One major con in the device is the lack of 3.5 mm HEADPHONE JACK and for what reason did Xiaomi opt for this..no one knows.

The device will be available starting from RMB 3299 (6GB-64GB) translating to Rs. 33000, RMB 3599 (6GB-128GB) or Rs. 36000, 3999 (6GB-256GB) or Rs. 40000 and the special edition Mi Mix 2 will be available in White and Black variants for RMB 4699 or Rs. 47000 (8GB-128GB).

Xiaomi India has confirmed that the Mi Mix 2 will be available in India making it their flagship device after the Mi5 that was launched last year.
