Beware of Spammy websites !

Social media is a great platform for promotion and WhatsApp being the most preferred to share links and media. However, as every coin has 2 sides, the good and the bad both come together. Most of the forwards with links are spam and don't result in anything. Some spammy websites claim to spin a wheel and get a prize or some just take your credentials in the name of surveys and sell them to agencies which in turn promote their stuff via emails and calls. Although most sites do look fake from their interface itself yet not all are of the same category.

WhatsApp forward

I did receive a WhatsApp forward claiming "Freedom sale" from Flipkart. Although the last date shown is 17th yet from the first impression the site seems legit but there are some loopholes indicating its fake nature.
(Do remember that no such sale exists on Flipkart at present) .

On opening the link, the site displays itself as Flipkart Lite. The items on sale are Redmi Note 4 for Rs. 1299/1099, HP pendrive at Rs. 1, trimmer for Rs. 6 and JBL GO for Rs. 59. The offers seem like those in Big Billion days.

On opening the Redmi note 4 link, the interface for selecting the device to order is exactly similar to the original Flipkart website. However, the device model was 128GB which Xiaomi never introduced and how did the spammers managed to get it no one knows :-P. Also in the description the Brand Name is displayed as Redmi and not Xiaomi.

And now the most important part. On clicking the buy now link, it takes to another page asking for details which is again similar in interface to Amazon (strangely). Here, Never ever add your details. Your personal details will go to such spammers who can misuse your data or even sell it to agencies and in turn earn money.
Also, inspite of entering details, you will never get anything but rather another page to share it on WhatsApp groups to lure more people to add their credentials.

Hence, be aware of such spam websites and share this article for others to know about such Spams.

(This post is mainly to create awareness related to such fake websites. Although here log in credentials like email and password are not asked yet with increase in fake websites and ease of getting domain names, such possibilities may occur and one can easily be scammed)
