What is Google's new project "FUCHSIA" ?

Google has been achieving great success with Android being its version of mobile OS and chrome OS is yet to make a mark in tablet and desktop category. Google has added another OS which is primarily in its initial stage known as " FUCHSIA " OS. Nothing much is known about the origin of the name and so on but an initial preview showing its features and rest of its capabilities is live. The initial reports of work on this OS was way back in 2016 and now we have initial preview of it.
FUCHSIA Logo
This OS is dependent on Magenta kernel unlike Linux as in Android and chrome OS. This Magenta Kernel is the base for the OS which has various libraries, drivers, source files and so on to interact with the hardware which is mainly to boot the device, communicate with peripherals and react to the commands via the software i.e FUCHSIA in this case.
Google is developing the OS in such a way that it aims this OS to take over Android in the near future and make it run even on the embedded systems, desktops and tablets apart from smartphones.

Now, what is the reason that Google needs to develop this alternative OS is not known however we can speculate that like iOS or rather like Apple, Google also wants its OS to be quite common on various devices or make it more efficient unlike Android which is resource hungry. Android usually takes good amount of RAM, processing power and also the RAM management with some OEM's are not upto the mark inspite of hardware. Another reason is updates which smartphone companies support their flagships for only about 2 years and the condition for budget to midranger is worse.

Whatever be the case, its initial preview or sneak peek into the UI is available and combined into an apk. This OS makes use of interface and apps written in Google Flutter SDK which allows cross platform code to be run on both iOS and Android at present. Hence, FUCHSIA making use of this is an additional bonus. The initial name given to the interface is 'ARMADILO'

FUCHSIA interface
The interface is a complete makeover from Android. You will be first greeted with probably your account pic along with date , time, location and battery status. On clicking the card of the profile, you get the quick toggles and additional information about your network, WiFi and so on.

App cards on the left and Google cards to the right

Swiping the default screen to the top, you get a series of apps in the form of cards which on selecting, opens the apps in the full screen mode.
Similarly, swiping to the bottom, you can access all the Google cards.
A small circle is present at the bottom of the screen which acts as the home button.

Google search

The Google search is also available like as in Android. A different keyboard pops up which has dark colours which blends well with the interface. (However nothing is fixed now as this is just a preview and the keyboard is the Google keyboard, not Gboard)

Multitasking and apps can be grouped into one card

A notable feature which was introduced in Android 7 was multiwindow. This feature is present in this OS and has better functionality. You can select any app from the app cards and place it on another app which you can multitask either by opening multiple apps in multiple window or just select the app as in the above image (left part).

The FUCHSIA OS seems promising and from the preview, the transition between apps was smooth with literally no lag. No doubt its just cards but an awesome approach to better multitasking.
Only time can tell what will be the final product and the reason for Google to develop this OS. Also is this arriving in the future or not.. no one knows as at present its all speculations however we are adamant that it will surely come... Till then stay tuned!!
