Save data using SKYPE LITE from Microsoft

Skype has been one of the most downloaded apps on the play store and it's the best cross platform communication tool. Indeed there are many other contenders like Viber , WhatsApp video call and others, yet most official stuff happens over Skype as its reliable and offers higher quality voice calls and video calls good enough to hold a conference online.
Speaking of Skype on Android platform, the original app is bulky as on most devices it does take time to open and consumes major amount of resources like processing power , RAM and ultimately takes a toll on battery life and Data and hence causes heating.
Microsoft has released a toned down version of Skype called as Skype lite which is mainly focussed for India. This lite version mainly saves data and also monitors how much data has been consumed. There is an option to either save data or keep it as it is. India is a major market for smartphones and hence many people tend to use Mobile data, hence, keeping this in mind Microsoft has released this lite version. Also if you use a lot of Skype and have FUP limits on wifi , this app could save a lot of data when compared to using the original app.

As said earlier, Skype lite is at present released only for India. Nothing can be said about its release in other countries.

The app is almost the same as that of the globally released app. You can access your Skype contacts or phone contacts too. Also chats appear in a separate window. You get the option to search for newer contacts to get connected with ( which has to be obvious).

One of the newer feature of Skype is the addition of BOTS. These bots are like virtual assistant with which you can converse with. They are of many types like MEME Cat which can generate Memes or a bot called as Your face which you yourself should try it. You can also search for other Bots but however i feel if you are truly 'alone' only then you would use Skype to talk to a Bot :-P

Coming to the main feature of the app i.e saving data. I did try to make a call from this app to another phone. Firstly there is no compromise in call quality. Its excellent over mobile data also in terms of saving data , it did manage to consume less although I would like to know from you about how much data did you manage to save.
Speaking of video calls, the quality was again decent enough. However, it all depends on your Internet speeds. The data saving feature in the lite version does work well. However, its too early to comment as the calls which I made were not that long. Initial testing seems fine though.

You can track the amount of data consumed from the left part of the app. It shows the real time usage and updates itself on a constant basis.

From the settings corner, you get a toggle to check or uncheck the option to save data. One addition in the Skype lite is the enabling of night mode. This feature is missing on the globally released version. However, some other features like setting the quality of video call, previewing media content like videos remain absent.

Not lengthening more, this app does its job at its best to save data as well as provide decent quality of video and voice calls.
Now the question is that why you should download this app??
Unlike original Skype app, this app opens fast and swift to use. There wont be much lag while using it. Apart from its data saving feature, the quality of calls which keeps itself ahead of most apps , night mode may make you to download this app.
