After announcing the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it was time for Xiaomi to dominate the budget segment again and this time its the Redmi 5. The Redmi 5 along with the 5 Plus was announced in China way back in December 2017 however the 5 Plus was disguised as the Note 5 in India. The Redmi 5 is set to replace the popular Redmi 4 which had a smaller form factor than the Note series and similar is the case here.

The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7 inch 18:9 2.5D curved IPS display. The resolution has been maintained at HD+ with 1440×720 pixels. The rear houses a single 12MP camera (f/2.2) with an LED flash and the fingerprint sensor is present at the center. The capacitive buttons have been replaced by software buttons. The front facing camera is of 5MP and it comes with an LED flash to enhance the selfies following the footsteps of Oppo/Vivo. Overall, the device has a thickness of just 7.7mm and weighs 157g.
The main differences between the Redmi 5 and the Note 5 apart from the screen size and resolution is the SOC used and the battery capacity. The Redmi 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SOC which is based on 14nm process and makes use of Adreno 506 GPU which was also present on the Snapdragon 625 SOC. The battery capacity that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 boasts is of 3300 mAh which is 700 mAh lesser than the Redmi Note 5.
