What to expect from Huawei's next flagship ?

Huawei and it's sub-brand Honor, with their products have gained quite a lot market share in many countries especially in India. Their market share in the USA is although stagnant with slow growth yet they did make a mark with their Mate devices which were one of the competitors to Samsung's Note series. Last year the flagship under the P series i.e the P10 was unveiled during the MWC and this time unveiling the successor during MWC 2018 is probably in the works too although not confirmed. The next P device is expected to be named as either the P11 or P20 which is yet to be confirmed.

Some of the specifications that we can expect is the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SOC powering the device, 6/8 GB RAM with 64/128 GB storage. The Kirin 970 SOC is based on 10nm process with a dedicated Neural processing unit for AI related tasks. The AI will mainly be a highlight in cameras which was also demonstrated with the Honor View 10 announced recently. The artificial intelligence can detect the object and provide a suitable condition for  capturing image for optimum output. The View 10 had a great camera performance hence the expectations with the next P device is at a much higher level. The so-called AI is basically a software algorithm which can enhance the quality. Similar implementation is also available on the Pixel 2/2 XL devices where a single rear camera can handle the best portraits.

The notch at the front will house the front facing camera which is expected to have the megapixel count of 23. Along with the camera, the notch will also house the regular sensors like proximity and may have an additional setup for face unlocking.

Coming to physical features, the screen size is expected to be around 5.5-5.7 inches for the regular P11/20 whereas the Plus may get a larger 5.9 or 6 inch display. The 18:9 aspect ratio will make its way to the next 'P'. The infamous notch might make its way here which may or may not be a plus point for many however considering the leak from trusted source it's highly evident. Another highlight about the design is the rear, housing 3 cameras. The usage of 3 cameras will be a first of its kind which also translates to their dual camera usage back then with the P9. The combination of 3 cameras may have a resolution of upto 40MP. We can expect one of the sensor to provide optical (or hybrid) zoom and the other can be a wide angle lens or a monochrome sensor which has always been the case however, we cannot confirm the details yet regarding the usage of the lenses.

Gaining inspiration from the Honor View 10, Honor 7X and the Mate 10, we can expect the battery capacity of the P11/20 Plus to hover around 3750 mAh or 4000 mAh and 3340 mAh for the regular P11/20. The renders indicate a glass back which should pave the way for wireless charging and quick charge should be default through wired charger.

Speaking of the software, Android Oreo should be on board based on Huawei's own EMUi skin. The EMUi is unique in itself with heavy customization support via themes and comes with its own shelf of features.

The devices will be unveiled either during the MWC scheduled between 26th Feb - 1st March or by the last week of March. From the renders, are you excited for Huawei's offering or would rather settle for Samsung S9? Do let us know.
